CDC Shortens Isolation and Quarantine Period Guidance

In our attempt to “break through the noise” below is the most current information and information links regarding what you need to know and actions you should take to best navigate through the coronavirus issues impacting your business.

 

COVID19 - Updated CDC Recommendations Shorten Isolation and Quarantine Period for the General Population

 

The CDC issued updated recommendations to shorten isolation and quarantine periods for the general population for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people on Monday, December 27, 2021. According to the CDC these changes are motivated by science demonstrating that the majority of SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurs early in the course of illness, generally in the 1-2 days prior to onset of symptoms and the 2-3 days after. Below are the current isolation and quarantines established by the CDC.

 

If You Test Positive for COVID-19 (Isolate) - Everyone, regardless of vaccination status.

  • Should Stay Home for 5 days.
  • If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house.
  • Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.

If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.

 

If You Were Exposed1 to Someone with COVID-19 (Quarantine)

Are Asymptomatic and:

  • Have been boosted

OR

  • Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the last 6 months

OR

  • Completed the primary series of J&J vaccine within the last 2 months

You should:

  • Wear a mask around others for 10 days.
  • Test on day 5, if possible.

Note: If you develop Symptoms get a test and stay home as specified above

 

Asymptomatic and:

  • Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over 6 months ago and are not boosted

OR

  • Completed the primary series of J&J over 2 months ago and are not boosted

OR

  • Are unvaccinated

You should:

  • Stay home for 5 days. After that continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
  • If you can’t quarantine you must wear a mask for 10 days.
  • Test on day 5 if possible.

Note: If you develop Symptoms get a test and stay home as specified above

1Someone who was less than 6 feet away from an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.
